a)  Network Infrastructure



1. Outside Plant (OSP)

Job Summary

►      Demonstrated knowledge of OSP route design; OSP space design (maintenance holes, ducts, vaults); OSP cabling hardware, OSP grounding, bonding and electrical protection systems. Prepare plans, layouts and designs with supporting calculations for specifications, the development of tools, quantities, materials lists and cost estimates as required.

►      Extensive knowledge of components of an optical fiber network and copper cabling systems, including the product and specifications of proper optical fiber performance.

►      Able to interpret comprehensive test documents that will serve as valuable reference after the OSP installation.

►      Able to perform Optical Power Loss Measurement tests, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) test, Chromatic Dispersion (CD) test and Polarization-Mode Dispersion (PMD) test on all installed inter-building Single-Mode Optical Fibers Cables

►      Able to document existing outside plant fiber and primary and secondary cabling systems in an acceptable international engineering practices and standards. Read/interact/verify/update OSP data stored in Telcordia Network Engineer software documenting KAUST OSP infrastructure.

►      Check plans, designs, materials purchased and equipment for conformity with specifications.

►      Participate in the planning of projects as required.



Required Education / Qualification

►      Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE), Civil Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Full understanding and knowledge of acceptable Outside Plant engineering standards and practices.

►      Minimum of 6-10 years of experience or more in design and implementation of Outside plant cabling system

►      Knowledge of OSP BICSI standards and Saudi Aramco OSP cabling system is a plus. Saudi ARAMCO experience preferred.





2. Inside Plant (ISP)

Job Summary

►      Able to perform Optical Power Loss Measurement tests, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) test, on all installed intra-building optical Fibers Cables

►      Able to test 4 -Pair 100 Ohm Augmented Category 6 Cabling and perform Alien Crosstalk testing as per ANSI/TIA-568-B.2-10 Transmission Performance Specifications for 4-Pair 100 Ohm Augmented Category 6 Cabling

►      Performs basic WORK related to the installation of SCS systems including:  installation of standard materials (equipment racks, ladders, backboards, cabling, faceplates, etc.) in accordance with Manufacturer’s directions, BICSI, EIA/TIA 568, and EIA/TIA 569.

►      Performs copper cable termination and testing (CAT3 multi-pair copper riser cable, CAT6a, and other performance standards as required) for work related to construction/ restoration of SCS copper cable facilities.

►      Performs fiber optic cable splicing for work related to construction/restoration of SCS fiber optic cable facilities.

►      Performs SCS Design packages which include design drawings, scope of work and materials take off.



Required Education / Qualification

►      Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE), or Electrical Engineering. Full understanding and knowledge of acceptable Inside Plant engineering standards and practices.

►      Minimum of 4-6 years of experience or more in design and implementation of Inside plant cabling system

►      Knowledge of BICSI standards and Saudi Aramco SCS cabling system is a plus. Saudi ARAMCO experience preferred.



3. Wireless

Job Summary

►      Wireless network is being deployed;

►      Other wireless related activities;

►      Maintenance of Wireless Equipments;

►      Installation and configuration of Access points and Wireless Controllers.

►      Verifying optimum coverage inside and outside Buildings using appropriate RF analysis tools.

►      Carry out special project of the expansion of wireless services.

►      Survey and installation of access points for satisfying new requirements.

►      Knowledge of RF planning & optimizing tools

·         Ablility to troubleshoot, diagnoses and fix any related problem. Cisco Aironet 1240AG Series Access Points

·          Cisco Aironet 1522 Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Point

·         Cisco Wireless Services Module (WiSM)

·         Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS)

►      Carry out day-to-day operations, maintenance, upgrade, engineering, troubleshooting, and problem determination and resolution of KAUST WLAN, and not limited to the following:

·         Secure Enterprise Connectivity: Wireless LAN voice and data services for internal Staff; internet and intranet services for internal Staff and Students.

·         WLAN Access Security; Generate and maintain Wireless Security Policies.

·         Wireless LAN Hotspot Connectivity.

·         Indoor (Voice & Data) Wireless Coverage.

·         Outdoor (Voice & Data) Mesh Wireless Coverage

·         Centralized Wireless LAN Management: monitoring WLAN system through its management console (WLC & WCS)

·         Maintain Voice, Video, Data, etc. QoS “priority” end-to-end



Required Education / Qualification

►      4 years Bachelors Degree in Computer Science engineering or equivalent

►      Good Knowledge of Cisco WiSMs, Lightweight APs and Outdoor APs

►      Minimum of 5-7years of related experience.

►      Qualified CCNA, CCNP(Wireless) and/or CCIE(Wireless)

►      Qualified Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP), Certified Wireless Network Expert (CWNE), CCNP and CCIE. Familiar with ISO/IEC 27002 & PCI “Data Security Standard”



4. Network Field Engineers

Job Summary

►      Laying of Augmented Category 6 (CAT 6A) cables on Cable Raceways / ladders / Risers and termination on the Patch Panel and/or Receptacles.

►      Patching of cables between the Patch Panel and the Switches/Routers

►      Laying of Optical Fiber and Termination on the Patch Panels and/or Switches/Routers.

►      Troubleshooting of Structured Cabling (Copper and/or Fiber) in case of connectivity problems.

►      Installation of IP Phone sets, Access Points, PoE network switches, etc.

►      Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix any related problem.



Required Education / Qualification

►      Engineers shall have a minimum Qualification of at least 4 years Bachelor degree / Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Communication Engineering.

►      Basic knowledge of IP networking & telephony, Audio/Visual & Video conferencing systems.

►      Basic knowledge of IP addressing system.

►      Basic knowledge of Power System: AC & DC

►      Basic knowledge on usage of Test Equipments like Multi-meters, line tracers, etc.

►      Engineers shall have three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in large-scale Networks.



5. IPTV Engineer

Job Summary

►      Maintain IPTV video operating center including researching, fixing and clearing trouble tickets

►      Remotely manage mini head ends, routers & servers and stream links

►      Manage and stage content with Programmers including digital rights management and ad insertions

►      Develop and maintain change control process for integrated IPTV solution including software, middleware, encoders, DRM and set tops. Write script middleware for the set-top digital rights

►      Schedule and perform routine maintenance

►      Manage the IT, RF and QOS functions for video

►      Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix any related problem.

►      Stage systems of testing tools for video and IP layer 8. Serve as SME to other Video team members working to deploy IPTV.

►      Have full knowledge of an IPTV system design and implementation, and be able to troubleshoot it from the STB to the head end to identify any problems with the satellite, streamers, middle-ware, STB, etc.

►      Able to perform subscription management tasks.

►      Carry out day-to-day operations, maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting and problem determination and resolution of KAUST IPTV QoS & QoE.

►      Capability of developing IPTV Performance Tests Reports:

·         Channel zapping measurements includes:

o   IGMP or Multicast Listener Discovery leave and join delay for subscribers.

o   Sustained channel zapping performance.

·         Media Delivery Index test includes:

o   The impact of protocol stress, voice, data services, channel zapping on media quality

o   The number IPTV subscribers/session/connections/channels the IPTV system can support within acceptable media quality.

·         Video On Demand test includes:

o   Packets loss, sequence error, latency and jitter

►      Maximum number of simultaneous streams, session rate & video throughput.

►      Assume other duties as assigned



Required Education / Qualification

►      4 years Bachelors Degree in Computer Science / Electrical engineering or equivalent

►      Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience.

►      Qualified attendance of the following trainings of Selevision and Octopus systems:

·         IPTV Overview Basic Course

·         IPTV Streamer Configuration and Management

·         VOD Streamer Configuration and Management

·         Octopus Configuration & Administration

·         Network Load Balancing Management

·         STB Installation & Configuration





6. Technical Clerk

Job Summary

►      Administrative support to the Network department staff

►      Keeping the tracking of tickets issued and resolved:

►      Gate pass and other administrative activities;

►      Reporting

Required Education / Qualification

►      Bachelors in Business Administration

►      Minimum of 3 – 5 years of related experience.
